Do you have Magic Fairy Wings?

Jane playing fairy

Jane just loves dressing up and role play. Put a foil pencil in her hand and she is a magical fairy or a prince with a sword.   A pirate hat makes her pink beard(!?), pirate of the rainbow seas and when she flips it around she's an astronaut in a rocket and 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..... she's blasted off the back of the sofa and landed on cushion moon. But it's not that easy for all my kids.

David mostly accesses his imagination through movies and books... I think. And Anthony needs a bit of help sometimes. He does a good job, but he's always needed props.  This is not unusual for kids with autism.  When he started using his imagination his costumes had to be exact.

A Knight costume had to have armour and a shield and a builder costume needed a saw and a hard hat.  Initially the idea of taking a perfect pirate costume and turning the hat round to be used as a space helmet would just make him confused and upset.  But he has slowly learned.

Jane playing ladybird

We have this adorable set of Ladybird Wings and Deeley Bopper  from Magic Fairy Wings, toys and clothes.  Jane and I had been reading one of our old stories by Fran Evans where fairies are getting ready for a summer ball. Rose fairy is the dress maker and has been too busy making all her friends costumes to make her own. Fortunately her friends, ladybird fairy, butterfly fairy and grasshopper fairy are there to help.

Jane has no problems becoming any one of the fairies with her wings on, or any other fairy she could think of.  Tinkerbell, from her great many adventures and even at one point the fairy godmother?  She also made an excellent friend of Gaston the ladybird, and played as both a butterfly and parrot in the jungle.

But I think my biggest surprise came when Jane was having a chat with Anthony about what to play.

"Can we play something what is flying?" she asked.

"What about with planes?" replied Anthony.

And off they flew, to somewhere in the USA or Spain I think.  Not a blink that Jane had a pair of glittery dotted wings and a set of antenna on - that's a pretty non-airplane outfit.

I think Anthony was just happy to get out of playing anything other than princesses and fairies for five minutes. So what more can I say.. try your imagination out.  Don a pair of wings and see where they will take you!

We were sent a set of Ladybird Wings and Deeley Bopper from Magic Fairy Wings for purpose of review as part of being a Magic Fairy Wings Ambassador.

  6. oh how adorable? i love hearing about the relationship between the kids and how Jane plays with her brothers. Being the only girl must be hard but the boys letting her play (as long as its not princesses) im sure is lovely to watch.
Thank you for letting us at #TriumphantTales in to see more of their childhood. I have a lovely image of them playing in the garden now!

  9. They are beautiful wings, I think our children often do things for their siblings that they would never otherwise do. Somehow being with them seems to take them out of their comfort zone, at least for a little while. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at #PostsFromTheHeart

  14. Love those ladybird wings - so pretty. Lovely that Jane and Anthony enjoyed some imaginative play together even if ladybird wings were somewhat unusual attire for an aeroplane trip. Thanks for sharing with #ftmob :-)
