This week's wonderful Wednesday share is something I came across on the Huffington Post that reminded me of recent statistics released in The Children's Society's Good Childhood Report 2016.
Just last week I wrote a post about the sad statistics that show one on three 10-15 year old girls are not happy with their looks. I don't think it's something that just hits with puberty and a small incident with my nearly four year older daughter made be aware of how sensitive she already is to how she looks and what she wears.
I'm all for my daughter showing preference, enjoying what she likes and taking pride in herself - but I wholly want to support and preserve her mental health and understanding of her true self, what ever she wishes that to be.
And that's when I came across a link to an article by Sarah Koppelkam on the Huffington Post on facebook via Linda Stade - an education writer. At the bottom of the article it said:
"Remind your daughter that
the best thing she can do with her body is to
use it to mobilize her beautiful soul."
The article, 'How to Talk to Your Daughter about her Body' is brilliant. If you have a little girl, or a big girl, in your life, please go have a read.the best thing she can do with her body is to
use it to mobilize her beautiful soul."
SUCH an important aspect of bringing up girls in today's day... lovely post, lovely article, thanks for sharing.

That is a brilliant article, I should take note with my girl who is 11. She doesn't seem bothered about her body right now but I'm sure it will come soon. #candidcuddles
ReplyDeleteSuch a great article. I am very aware this is aimed at girls but I think more and more boys are being effected by this too so it doesn't hurt to include them! #candidcuddles
ReplyDeleteI'm really struggling with the disheartening (and if I'm honest irritating) comments my 12 yo is coming out regarding her looks. Society needs to change as a whole to be honest otherwise females don't have a hope of being positive about their bodies and looks. I'll definitely read those links etc. Thanks for joining #candidcuddles
