I found my wonderful Wednesday share this week via Autism on our house Facebook page who published this image via Respectfully Connected. It's a quote from Meg Murray that highlights how, just like our kids are 'different, not less', so is our family.
Our downs may be:
- David having a meltdown
- Anthony not understanding himself
- When our darling dog passed away (still wipe a tear as I write that)
They may be different downs to yours, but downs none the less.
And our ups might be:
- David signing 'hug' for the first time
- Anthony accepting his autism
- David and Jane sharing gingerbread
- Hubby and me going to the Rugby World Cup
- The family watching fireworks at Disney World
They may be the different, but they are still ups.
Some may be similar to your family and some very different. But so far, just like the little lists I created in a few ticks, I'd say we've had more ups than downs by a long way. And that's pretty good. We are and always have been a wonderfully neurodiverse, happy family.. and long may it continue. I love us, immensely.

What a lovely way of capturing ups and downs. All families are different to each other and incomparable really, but that is a lovely quote :-) Emily #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quote - and so very very true! I love the way you list the ups and downs - such a good idea and I think, that in my moments of feeling it is all down, it might just buoy me up! #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteAwww, love this post, and that quote. So true, and we can't all see it all the time but you're right that we should try hard to step back and appreciate what we have xx
ReplyDeletelovely post and quote. Neurodiversity in the family has caused us plenty of unexpected moments when you suddenly get to see things from a very different perspective. #ablogginggoodtime
