WonderfulWednesday: It's Play Day 2016
I had no idea when I woke up this morning that today is 'Play Day 2016'. A tweet from Scope that highlighted inclusive play caught my eye and I discovered a day to highlight for my wonderful Wednesday share.
Today (and every first Wednesday in August every year) is Play Day, a celebration of children’s right to play, and a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives. I couldn't agree more. Kids learn through play. My boys with autism learn skills through play. A few examples:
They learn motor skills and about the world with crafts play
They expand their social skills and even their executive functioning skills through imaginative play
They learning about nature and being social in the garden
They learn about what to expect through games
They learn about food and textures through recipes and cooking play
Learn about turn taking in the playground
And so today I encourage you to enjoy your play day. There may be a Play Day event near you. What will you get up to?

Happy play day. I had no idea! I struggle With play and have spant time, money & energie setting things up that have been useful/played With for Two minutes & then left. My big lad really struggles to play anything but computer games. But he will play board games with us we discovered so we now have a cupboard full of them! Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime 🎉
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE that a Play Day exists. I had no idea, but I'm totally going to remember and make a huge thing out of it next ear. Play is such an integral part of childhood, and absolutely necessary to development. My son is 16 months, so all we do is play all day. It's quite wonderful, really <3 Thanks for sharing! #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteI think we learn more when we choose to play. #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! Children learn so much from play! My 2 year old was learning about taking turns, and other social skills, today while playing at a friend's house! x #KCACOLS
ReplyDeletePlay is so important! Sad we missed play day (will remember for next year) but every day is a play day here anyway with three under 5 lol! #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be so many "days" now that it's hard to keep up with them! Although, I do think that a play day is well-deserved in this busy world of ours!
